About Murazzi Pizza

Murazzi Pizza was started in 2016 by Chef Gerard Solazzo and Stephen Clagett when the two decided it was time to start their own pizzeria.

With a focus on locally sourced ingredients, Murazzi Pizza brings wood fired pizza to you, serving up fresh pizzas from our mobile oven.

We partner with local businesses, setting up our food truck for various events throughout Maryland. Looking for catering at your private event? We can do that, too.

But we aren’t just a pizzeria. We also offer in-house private dinners, bringing regional Italian cuisine to your home.

Local, Fresh Ingredients

We’re passionate about using fresh, local ingredients. Almost everything on your pizza is made in-house and, whenever possible, grown in Maryland.

The dough recipe was developed by chef Gerard. A former baker, the dough recipe came together after years of tinkering to get a crisp, digestible, light crust you can still hold in your hands.

We make our sauce using the best plum tomatoes we can find. Crushed by hand, we get the perfect texture for our pies.

And since we couldn’t find a cheese we really liked, we decided to make our own from local curd!

About Chef Gerard Solazzo

Chef Gerard is a classically trained chef who has spent time working in kitchens in Italy and the D.C. area.

Growing up in an Italian household in Silver Spring, food has always been a big part of his life. His parents and grandparents were always in the kitchen, and Chef Gerard was close by. His love of food followed him into adulthood when he’d enjoy cooking on the weekends while working a 9-to-5 job.

But that wasn’t cutting it. He wanted to work with his hands in a creative way.

He started attending culinary school while working in the kitchen of a busy local Italian restaurant. Years of restaurant jobs followed, including a couple years working for restaurants in Northern Italy. Along the way, Chef Gerard picked up various skills - from baking breads to butchering meat, preparing menus and managing ingredient inventories.

That all led to a conversation with Stephen where the two decided it was time to start their own venture, which became Murazzi Pizza.
